Overview

This autologous dendritic cell-based cancer vaccine is an investigational immunotherapy developed by the University of Maryland, Baltimore, specifically for the treatment of recurrent or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN). The therapeutic process involves isolating monocytes from the patient's peripheral blood, which are then matured into dendritic cells ex vivo. These cells are subsequently administered via intra-tumoral injection, where they are intended to capture tumor antigens and migrate to lymph nodes to prime and activate tumor-specific T-cells. This personalized approach aims to overcome immune evasion and stimulate a robust anti-tumor immune response in patients who have failed conventional therapies.
