Overview

This investigational autologous dendritic cell-based therapeutic vaccine is developed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for the treatment of HIV infection. The vaccine is produced by harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells and pulsing them ex vivo with specific HIV peptide antigens. Once re-administered, these mature dendritic cells function as potent antigen-presenting cells (APCs), aiming to prime and expand HIV-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T-lymphocyte populations. The goal of this immunotherapy is to enhance the host's immune control over viral replication, potentially allowing for sustained viral suppression during an analytical treatment interruption (ATI) from antiretroviral therapy.
