Overview

Dendrobium refers to a genus of orchids, most notably *Dendrobium officinale*, which are utilized in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) under the name Shi Hu. In therapeutic contexts, it is often formulated as "Dendrobium mixture" (DM), a patented herbal preparation. Research into DM suggests it has significant anti-inflammatory and metabolic-regulating properties, particularly in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Its primary mechanism of action involves the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), which leads to improved insulin sensitivity, reduced blood glucose levels, and the alleviation of hepatic steatosis and inflammation.
