Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dendrobium huoshanense water extract (DHWE) is a botanical extract derived from the stems of the orchid *Dendrobium huoshanense*, a plant highly valued in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The extract is primarily composed of bioactive polysaccharides, along with flavonoids, phenols, and sesquiterpenes. DHWE has demonstrated a range of pharmacological activities in preclinical research, including immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and hepatoprotective effects. It is particularly noted for its ability to regulate gut microbiota and improve metabolic parameters in models of type 1 diabetes. While it has been investigated in small-scale clinical pilot studies for atopic dermatitis, it is not currently an approved pharmaceutical drug and is typically categorized as a research compound or a component of dietary supplements.
