Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dendropanax dentiger root is the root of a traditional medicinal plant used in China, primarily for treating inflammatory diseases. Phytochemical analysis has shown that it contains phenylpropanoids, alkaloids, flavonoids, fatty acids, phenols, steroids, cyclic peptides, and terpenoids. Extracts of the root have demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory activity, notably through inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and antioxidant activity in vitro. Its activity as a COX-2 inhibitor and as an antioxidant support further consideration as a new natural option for these indications. Its mechanism is thought to be mediated through COX-2 inhibition, but the root contains many bioactive components with possible polypharmacology[1][2][3].
