Overview

Dendrosomal nanocurcumin (DNC) is a nanoparticle-based formulation of curcumin, a natural polyphenol derived from *Curcuma longa*. This formulation utilizes a non-toxic, biodegradable dendrosomal nanocarrier—typically composed of oleic acid and polyethylene glycol (PEG)—to overcome the inherent pharmacological limitations of curcumin, such as its poor aqueous solubility, low stability, and minimal systemic bioavailability. DNC has demonstrated significant therapeutic potential in oncology by inducing apoptosis and downregulating the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), specifically MMP-2 and MMP-9, which are critical for tumor invasion and metastasis. Beyond its anticancer properties, DNC has been investigated for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, including clinical evaluation for its ability to modulate cytokine storms in inflammatory conditions such as COVID-19.
