Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Dengue tetravalent vaccine, live, attenuated** is a recombinant, live-attenuated, tetravalent chimeric dengue vaccine marketed as **Dengvaxia**. It contains four yellow fever 17D-backbone chimeric viruses that express the pre-membrane and envelope proteins of dengue virus serotypes 1 through 4, eliciting active immune responses including neutralizing antibodies against all four dengue serotypes. Developed by Sanofi, it is used to prevent dengue caused by DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4. Its use is restricted to people with documented prior dengue infection because vaccination of dengue-naive individuals can increase the risk of severe or hospitalized dengue after subsequent infection. In the United States, it is approved for people aged 6 through 16 years with laboratory-confirmed prior dengue infection who live in dengue-endemic areas.
