Overview

Dengue Virus-1 is one of the four serotypes of the dengue virus, a mosquito-borne flavivirus. Specific attenuated strains, such as #45AZ5 (also known as PV-001-DV), are being investigated for their therapeutic potential as oncolytic viruses in advanced melanoma, where they aim to stimulate the immune system. This strain was originally developed by the US Army as a potential preventative vaccine for dengue fever. Dengue Virus-1 is also utilized as a live virus human challenge strain (DENV-1-LVHC strain 45AZ5) in clinical trials to evaluate vaccine efficacy and study dengue pathogenesis. The virus naturally infects humans and *Aedes aegypti* mosquitoes, and its NS5 protein has been implicated in immune evasion.
