dengue virus serotype 2 expressing dengue virus serotype 3 surface proteins, live attenuated is a monovalent, live-attenuated chimeric vaccine candidate developed for the prevention of dengue fever caused by serotype 3. The vaccine utilizes a recombinant technology where the genetic backbone of an attenuated dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV-2) is modified to express the pre-membrane (prM) and envelope (E) structural proteins of dengue virus serotype 3 (DENV-3). This chimeric structure allows the virus to maintain the attenuation characteristics of the DENV-2 parent while presenting the critical neutralizing epitopes of DENV-3 to the host immune system. Developed in part through research at Umea University and sponsored by Region Vaesterbotten, this candidate has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to determine its safety and ability to induce serotype-specific neutralizing antibodies in flavivirus-naive populations.
