Overview

Dental pulp mesenchymal cell injection refers to the administration of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from the dental pulp tissue inside teeth. These cells are a type of adult multipotent stem cell capable of self-renewal and differentiation into various lineages, including osteoblasts (bone), chondrocytes (cartilage), adipocytes (fat), neural cells, and more[1][3][4][7]. Dental pulp MSCs—often called dental pulp stem cells or DPSCs—are being investigated for their regenerative potential in dentistry and medicine. Their primary mechanism is believed to be through paracrine signaling that promotes neuroangiogenesis, immunomodulation, anti-inflammatory effects, and tissue regeneration[1][4][5]. Current research focuses on using these injections for regenerating damaged or necrotic dental pulp tissue after injury or infection as an alternative to traditional root canal therapy. There is also growing interest in their application for bone regeneration in cases of critical-size defects as well as broader regenerative medicine indications such as nerve repair, myocardial infarction recovery, wound healing, and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases[3][4][6]. As of now, this therapy remains experimental; it is not yet approved for routine clinical use outside research settings in most countries[2][6].
