Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dentyl (also known as Dentyl Dual Action or Dentyl Active) is a commercially available, alcohol-free, dual-phase mouthwash produced by Venture Life Group. Its formulation consists of an oil phase (containing isopropyl myristate) and a water phase (containing the antimicrobial agent cetylpyridinium chloride [CPC] and sodium fluoride) that combine when shaken. Dentyl acts by physically lifting and removing plaque and bacteria from the oral cavity, while CPC disrupts the lipid membranes of bacteria and enveloped viruses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dentyl was evaluated in clinical and in vitro studies, notably by Cardiff University, to determine its efficacy in reducing salivary SARS-CoV-2 viral load and potentially mitigating viral transmission.
