deoxycholic acid

Rongzhi (deoxycholic acid injection) is a localized fat-dissolving (adipocytolytic) drug developed by Minova Pharmaceuticals. Approved by China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in June 2025, it is the first legally compliant domestic deoxycholic acid injection in China. It is indicated for the improvement of moderate to severe contour protrusion or excessive fullness caused by submental fat accumulation (commonly known as a double chin) in adults. Rongzhi is formulated as a benzyl alcohol-free injection, which theoretically reduces non-target tissue irritation and postoperative local reactions compared to other deoxycholic acid formulations. Deoxycholic acid is an endogenous secondary bile acid that acts as a non-ionic surfactant, disrupting the phospholipid bilayer of adipocyte membranes to cause cytolytic cell death and subsequent clearance of fat debris by macrophages.
