Deoxyepinephrine (also known as epinine or N-methyldopamine) is a naturally occurring catecholamine and sympathomimetic agent structurally related to dopamine and epinephrine. It acts as a non-selective agonist at dopamine receptors (D1 and D2), alpha-adrenoceptors (alpha-1 and alpha-2), and beta-adrenoceptors (beta-1 and beta-2). Its pharmacological effects include vasoconstriction via alpha-receptor stimulation, increased heart rate through beta-receptor activation, diuresis via renal dopamine receptor activation, and modulation of prolactin secretion. Deoxyepinephrine is the active metabolite of ibopamine—a drug used in the management of congestive heart failure—and has been investigated for cardiovascular indications as well as potential intraoperative ophthalmic use due to its mydriatic effect[1][4][6][7].
