Overview
DEP cabazitaxel (CTX-SPL9111) is a dendrimer-enhanced nanoparticle formulation of the taxane cabazitaxel, developed by Starpharma. It utilizes Starpharma's proprietary DEP (Dendrimer Enhanced Product) platform, which involves a highly branched poly-L-lysine dendrimer scaffold to enable sustained drug delivery and selective tumor targeting via the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect. Unlike standard cabazitaxel (Jevtana), DEP cabazitaxel is highly water-soluble and lacks toxic excipients like polysorbate-80, thereby eliminating the need for steroid or antihistamine pre-medication and reducing the risk of anaphylaxis. It is being investigated for the treatment of advanced solid tumors, including esophagogastric, prostate, and ovarian cancers, where it has shown improved tolerability and efficacy compared to conventional taxane therapy.
