Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Depelestat is a **recombinant protein** that acts as a highly potent and specific **inhibitor of human neutrophil elastase (hNE/ELA2)**. Human neutrophil elastase is an enzyme involved in the inflammatory response and is implicated in the loss of lung function in conditions such as cystic fibrosis and acute respiratory distress syndrome. By blocking hNE activity, depelestat aims to reduce tissue damage caused by excessive inflammation, limit pulmonary deterioration, and decrease mortality in affected patients. Depelestat was developed by Dyax and further developed/manufactured by Debiopharm, with clinical trials targeting cystic fibrosis and ARDS[1][3][5][7][9].
