Depigmented cat epithelial allergenic extract, also known by the code Dpg-pol-cat and the brand name Depigoid® Cat, is a subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) developed by LETI Pharma. [2] It is used to treat patients with moderate to severe allergic rhinitis or rhinoconjunctivitis, with or without controlled asthma, caused by a sensitization to cat epithelium. [2, 3, 5] The product is an 'allergoid', consisting of purified allergen extracts from cat epithelium that have been chemically modified through depigmentation and polymerization with glutaraldehyde, and then adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide. [1, 3] These modifications reduce the allergen's ability to bind to IgE (allergenicity) while maintaining its ability to stimulate the immune system (immunogenicity), which is intended to improve the safety of the therapy. [4] The mechanism involves inducing immune tolerance to cat allergens, a process associated with a significant increase in cat epithelium-specific IgG4 blocking antibodies. [1, 7] This desensitization leads to a reduction in allergic symptoms and a decreased need for rescue medications. [3, 5]
