Overview

Depigmented polymerized Phleum pratense pollen extract (marketed under the brand name Depigoid Phleum) is an allergen immunotherapy product (allergoid) developed by Laboratorios LETI. The active ingredient is a chemically modified extract of *Phleum pratense* (timothy grass) pollen that has been depigmented to remove low-molecular-weight, non-allergenic components and subsequently polymerized using glutaraldehyde. This modification reduces the extract's IgE-binding capacity (allergenicity) while preserving its T-cell reactivity (immunogenicity), thereby minimizing the risk of IgE-mediated systemic allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) and allowing for rapid up-dosing. The immunotherapy works by inducing immune tolerance, promoting the generation of allergen-specific IgG4 and IgA antibodies, and stimulating regulatory T (Treg) and regulatory B (Breg) cells that secrete anti-inflammatory cytokines like IL-10. It is developed for the treatment of grass pollen-induced allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and asthma, and has been evaluated in clinical trials for both subcutaneous (SCIT) and sublingual (SLIT) administration.
