Depreotide is a synthetic peptide that acts as a somatostatin receptor agonist, primarily binding to somatostatin receptor subtypes 2, 3, and 5. It is used as a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent when labeled with technetium Tc 99m (as Technetium Tc 99m Depreotide Injection), marketed under the brand names NeoTect and previously NeoSpect. Its main clinical application was for scintigraphic imaging to identify somatostatin receptor-bearing pulmonary masses in patients with known or suspected malignancy, particularly lung cancer. The drug enables non-invasive detection of malignant lesions by targeting tumors expressing these receptors. Depreotide-containing products have been withdrawn from the market in some regions (e.g., EMA withdrawal of NeoSpect).
