Overview

Deproteinized asparagus polysaccharide is a bioactive carbohydrate extracted from *Asparagus officinalis* that has undergone protein removal, typically via the Sevag method. It demonstrates significant anticancer activity, particularly against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), by inducing G2/M phase cell cycle arrest and promoting apoptosis. Mechanistically, it modulates the expression of apoptosis-related proteins, including the upregulation of Bax and caspase-3 and the downregulation of Bcl-2. Additionally, it has been shown to act as a chemosensitizer, enhancing the tumoricidal efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents like mitomycin in both in vitro and in vivo models.
