Overview

Der f 33 is **alpha-tubulin**, a protein allergen derived from the American house dust mite (*Dermatophagoides farinae*). It has a molecular weight of approximately 52 kDa and is classified as a novel allergen within the spectrum of house dust mite allergens. Der f 33 has demonstrated allergenicity in human testing: four out of sixteen house dust mite–allergic serum samples reacted positively in skin prick tests, and strong IgE binding was observed in immunoblot and IgE western blot experiments. The route of exposure is via inhalation, leading to sensitization in susceptible individuals, particularly those with house dust mite allergies. The protein's alpha-tubulin function relates to its structural role in the microtubule system, but its clinical relevance is due to its ability to trigger IgE-mediated allergic responses[3][1][6].
