Deracoxib is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the coxib class, used in veterinary medicine—primarily in dogs—to control pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, orthopedic surgery, and dental surgery. It acts by selectively inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an enzyme responsible for the synthesis of inflammatory prostaglandins, while sparing cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) at recommended doses. This selectivity reduces pain and inflammation with fewer gastrointestinal side effects compared to non-selective NSAIDs. Deracoxib is administered orally as a chewable tablet and was first approved for use in dogs in 2002 under the trade name Deramaxx[1][2][3][5][6][7].
