Overview

Deramiocel (CAP-1002) is an investigational allogeneic cell therapy composed of cardiosphere-derived cells (CDCs), a population of stromal cells derived from healthy human hearts. It is being developed for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) cardiomyopathy. The mechanism of action involves potent immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antifibrotic, pro-regenerative, and pro-angiogenic effects mediated by secreted exosomes containing bioactive cargo such as microRNAs. These exosomes target macrophages and other cells to reduce inflammation and stimulate tissue regeneration in DMD patients. Deramiocel has demonstrated efficacy in slowing disease progression and preserving muscle function in clinical trials for DMD[1][2][3][5][6].
