Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Derenofylline is a small molecule drug that acts as an antagonist of the adenosine A1 receptor. It was investigated for the treatment of acute decompensated heart failure. As an adenosine A1 receptor antagonist, its mechanism involves blocking the action of adenosine at this receptor subtype, which may have beneficial effects in conditions where adenosine-mediated signaling contributes to disease pathology. Derenofylline reached Phase 2 clinical trials for acute decompensated heart failure but development was discontinued[10].
