Overview

Dermagraft is a sterile, cryopreserved, human fibroblast-derived dermal substitute used as an advanced wound care product. It is manufactured by culturing neonatal human dermal fibroblasts onto a bioabsorbable polyglactin mesh scaffold. The living cells proliferate and secrete collagen, extracellular matrix proteins, growth factors, and cytokines to create a three-dimensional tissue containing metabolically active cells. Dermagraft acts as a skin substitute that covers chronic wounds—specifically full-thickness diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) of more than six weeks’ duration without exposure of tendon, muscle, joint capsule or bone—and stimulates the patient’s own skin cells to multiply and heal the wound. It is applied in conjunction with standard wound care regimens in patients with adequate blood supply to the affected area[1][3][4][6][8].
