Dermal fibroblast spheroids are three-dimensional (3D) aggregates of fibroblasts derived from the dermal layer of the skin, typically used as an autologous cell therapy for dermatological repair and rejuvenation. By culturing fibroblasts in a 3D spheroid format rather than a traditional 2D monolayer, the cells maintain a phenotype that more closely resembles their in vivo state, characterized by enhanced cell-to-cell signaling and increased production of extracellular matrix (ECM) components such as Type I collagen and elastin. This therapeutic approach is primarily investigated for the treatment of depressed acne scars, nasolabial folds, and other skin defects where the restoration of dermal volume and structural integrity is required. The spheroids are typically administered via intradermal injection directly into the target site, where they integrate into the host tissue and promote long-term remodeling.
