Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dermatix is a topical silicone gel used for the prevention and management of hypertrophic scars and keloids. It is primarily composed of polysiloxanes (silicone polymers), such as dimethicone. Classified as a medical device, it works by creating an occlusive barrier over the scar tissue, which increases hydration of the stratum corneum. This physical mechanism helps to soften and flatten scars, relieve itching and discomfort, and reduce redness. It was evaluated in a comparative study by University Hospital, Ghent to measure its occlusive and hydrating capacity relative to other silicone-based products.
