Dermatophagoides allergenic extract is a biological product derived from house dust mites of the genus *Dermatophagoides*, primarily *Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus* and *Dermatophagoides farinae*. Developed by LOFARMA S.p.A., it is utilized for both the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory allergies, such as allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma. The extract functions by interacting with allergen-specific IgE antibodies on the surface of mast cells and basophils; in diagnostic skin prick testing, this interaction triggers the release of inflammatory mediators like histamine. In the context of allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT), the extract is administered to modulate the patient's immune response, inducing long-term desensitization and immune tolerance. The product has been evaluated in Phase 2 in-vivo biological standardization studies to define its activity in histamine equivalent prick (HEP) units.
