Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dermatophagoides farinae allergen extract is a standardized **allergenic extract biologic** derived from the house dust mite *Dermatophagoides farinae* and marketed by Allermed Laboratories for allergy diagnosis and allergen immunotherapy. The product is supplied as a glycerinated extract standardized in Allergy Units and is administered by percutaneous skin testing, intradermal testing, or subcutaneous injection. Its pharmacologic activity is based on exposure of sensitized patients to mite allergens that cross-link allergen-specific IgE bound to mast cells, producing an immediate wheal-and-flare response for diagnosis; with repeated subcutaneous administration, it is used as allergen immunotherapy intended to reduce clinical reactivity to house dust mite allergens over time. The product is indicated for patients with a history of mite or house dust allergy and should be used by clinicians experienced in allergy practice.
