dermatophagoides farinae allergoid is a chemically modified allergen extract derived from the house dust mite *Dermatophagoides farinae*, developed by Inmunotek S.L. for use in allergen immunotherapy (AIT). The extract is typically modified through polymerization with glutaraldehyde, a process that creates allergoids with reduced IgE-binding capacity (allergenicity) while maintaining their ability to stimulate T-cell responses (immunogenicity). This modification significantly improves the safety profile of the immunotherapy by reducing the risk of systemic allergic reactions during administration. It is indicated for the treatment of IgE-mediated allergic conditions, including allergic rhinitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, and allergic asthma. The therapeutic mechanism involves inducing immune tolerance by shifting the immune response from a Th2-dominated allergic profile toward a Th1 and regulatory T-cell (Treg) mediated profile, which is often characterized by the induction of allergen-specific IgG4 blocking antibodies.
