Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is a combination of glutaraldehyde-modified allergen extracts, known as allergoids, derived from the house dust mites *Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus* and *Dermatophagoides farinae*. Developed by Probelte Pharma, it is indicated for allergen immunotherapy (AIT) in patients suffering from allergic rhinitis and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis triggered by house dust mite exposure. The glutaraldehyde modification process cross-links the allergen proteins, which significantly reduces their IgE-binding capacity (allergenicity) while preserving the essential T-cell epitopes (immunogenicity). This modification enhances the safety profile by reducing the risk of systemic allergic reactions during administration, allowing for a more rapid up-dosing schedule. The therapeutic mechanism involves shifting the patient's immune response from a Th2-dominated allergic profile to a Th1 and Regulatory T-cell (Treg) profile, characterized by the induction of IL-10 and the production of allergen-specific 'blocking' antibodies, particularly IgG4.
