Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus allergoid is an allergen extract derived from the house dust mite species Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus. It is used primarily in allergy testing and as immunotherapy for patients with house dust mite-induced allergic rhinitis (with or without conjunctivitis) and allergic asthma. The mechanism of action involves inducing immune tolerance by repeated exposure to the modified (allergoid) form of the allergen, thereby reducing hypersensitivity reactions upon natural exposure to dust mites. This therapy does not provide immediate symptom relief but aims to modify the underlying allergic response over time. It is administered either sublingually (as a tablet dissolved under the tongue) or via injection for diagnostic skin testing or subcutaneous immunotherapy[1][2][3][4][5]. The product is approved for use in patients aged 12 through 65 years[1].
