Overview
VALERGEN-DS is an allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) vaccine developed by the Centro Nacional de Biopreparados (BioCen) in Cuba. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of allergic asthma and respiratory allergies in patients sensitized to the *Dermatophagoides siboney* mite, a species endemic to Cuba. The vaccine is produced from a purified allergen extract derived from cultured mites, which undergoes ultrafiltration to remove low molecular weight components and ensure high purity. VALERGEN-DS is available in both subcutaneous (injectable) and sublingual formulations. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of immunological tolerance through the progressive administration of increasing doses of the allergen extract. This process modulates the immune system, shifting the response away from an allergic Th2 profile and reducing the production of allergen-specific IgE, thereby alleviating clinical symptoms of asthma and rhinitis.
