Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dermax is a therapeutic shampoo developed by Diomed Group (through its subsidiary Dermal Laboratories) for the topical treatment of scalp conditions. The primary active ingredient is benzalkonium chloride, a quaternary ammonium antiseptic that exhibits antimicrobial activity against the yeast *Malassezia furfur*, which is known to proliferate on scaly scalps. The product is specifically indicated for the treatment of pityriasis capitis (dandruff) and other seborrhoeic scalp conditions characterized by scaling. The formulation also contains coconut oil, which serves to condition the hair and moisturize the scalp. Dermax is approved for use in adults, children, and the elderly, and is administered topically as a shampoo.
