Overview
Dermophil (commonly known as Dermophil Indien) is a classic topical OTC pharmaceutical product formulated as a balm, stick, or ointment to treat and prevent dry, chapped, or irritated skin and lips, as well as chilblains, sunburn, and pruritus. Originally developed during World War I by French apothecary Joseph Uzac to protect soldiers' skin in the trenches, the formulation has been trusted for over a century. It contains a synergistic combination of three active ingredients: phenyl salicylate (salol), which provides local anti-inflammatory and mild antiseptic effects; levomenol (alpha-bisabolol), a chamomile-derived compound with potent anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties; and Peru balsam, a natural resin that promotes wound healing and tissue regeneration. Dermophil is marketed in Switzerland, Belgium, and other European countries by Melisana Healthcare (a subsidiary of the Klosterfrau Healthcare Group).
