Overview

Dermos is a nanosomal formulation of paclitaxel being developed by Aphios Corporation. It is designed as a topical treatment for AIDS-associated Kaposi's sarcoma (AIDS-KS), other skin cancers, and proliferative skin diseases such as melanoma and alopecia. The active ingredient, paclitaxel, is a small molecule taxane that functions as a microtubule stabilizer by binding to tubulin. This binding prevents microtubule depolymerization, thereby disrupting mitosis and inducing apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. The nanosomal delivery system (nanosomes) is utilized to enhance the delivery and efficacy of paclitaxel when applied topically to skin lesions.
