Overview

derris scandens extract is a botanical drug product derived from the stems of the woody vine *Derris scandens* Benth, a plant native to Southeast Asia and widely used in Thai traditional medicine. Developed by Mahidol University's Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, the extract is primarily indicated for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. It exerts its therapeutic effects through anti-inflammatory activity, likely involving the inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes and other inflammatory mediators. Clinical studies, including a Phase 3 trial, have demonstrated that the extract is efficacious and safe, showing comparable results to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug naproxen in reducing pain and improving physical function in patients with primary knee osteoarthritis.
