Desaspidin is a natural phloroglucinol derivative primarily isolated from ferns of the genus *Dryopteris*, such as *Dryopteris fragrans* and *Dryopteris juxtapostia*. Historically utilized as an anthelmintic agent, particularly for the treatment of fish tapeworm (*Diphyllobothrium latum*) infections, it functions as a potent uncoupler of oxidative phosphorylation. In biochemical research, it is frequently employed as a laboratory tool to study photosynthetic electron transport and ATP synthesis in chloroplasts, where it acts as a non-specific uncoupler of photophosphorylation by disrupting the electrochemical proton gradient across thylakoid membranes. Beyond its antiparasitic properties, desaspidin has demonstrated *in vitro* schistosomicidal activity against *Schistosoma mansoni* and has been investigated for potential anti-tumor promoting effects in mouse skin carcinogenesis models.
