Descartes-11 is an investigational autologous CD8+ CAR T-cell therapy engineered using mRNA to transiently express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), which is highly expressed on multiple myeloma cells. Unlike conventional CAR T therapies that permanently modify the genome, Descartes-11 uses Cartesian Therapeutics' RNA Armory platform to engineer the CAR expression transiently, aiming to reduce both short-term and long-term risks such as cytokine release syndrome and neurotoxicity. This approach allows for repeat dosing and eliminates the need for preconditioning lymphodepleting chemotherapy. The therapy is designed for outpatient administration and has been evaluated in clinical trials for newly diagnosed, high-risk multiple myeloma[1][3][5][7].
