desloratadine

Desloratadine is a second-generation tricyclic antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever), chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives), and pruritus. It is the active descarboethoxy metabolite of loratadine. Desloratadine acts as a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist, blocking the action of histamine—a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms such as sneezing, itching, runny nose, watery eyes, and hives. Because it does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier, desloratadine is considered non-sedating compared to first-generation antihistamines. It may also suppress histamine release from human mast cells[3][5][9].
