Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Desmeninol is a small molecule amino acid derivative and methionine hydroxy analog primarily used to manage balanced protein metabolism in patients with renal dysfunction and as a feed additive for livestock (notably poultry), where it serves as an essential amino acid source[1][3]. In the body (and in animals), Desmeninol is converted enzymatically into methionine—an essential amino acid critical for protein synthesis and various metabolic processes. Its supplementation can improve nutritional status by supporting protein metabolism and antioxidant capacity[6]. The compound is also known under the brand name Alimet when used in animal nutrition.
