Overview

Desmethylarzoxifen (also known as LY335562 or DMA) is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) and the primary active metabolite of arzoxifen (LY353381), which was originally developed by Eli Lilly. It binds to the estrogen receptor (ER) with high affinity and acts as an antagonist, inhibiting estrogen-dependent cell proliferation. In addition to its ER-mediated effects, desmethylarzoxifen has been shown to possess chemopreventive activity by attenuating oxidative estrogen metabolism and reducing the formation of genotoxic catechol estrogens and reactive oxygen species in breast epithelial cells.
