PI-0824 is a synthetic peptide-based immunotherapy developed for the treatment of pemphigus vulgaris (PV), a rare autoimmune blistering skin disease. The drug is designed to reduce the production of pathogenic antibodies by specifically targeting disease-causing components of the immune system, aiming to induce anergy in disease-associated T-cells. Its mechanism involves modulation of immune responses against desmoglein 3 (DSG3), a key autoantigen in PV. PI-0824 was intended as an alternative to high-dose steroids and broad immunosuppressants, with hopes to minimize side effects associated with current therapies.
