Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Desoxycortone pivalate (also known as deoxycorticosterone pivalate or DOCP) is a synthetic mineralocorticoid hormone and an ester prodrug of 11-deoxycorticosterone. It acts as an agonist of the mineralocorticoid receptor, regulating water and electrolyte balance by promoting sodium and chloride retention and potassium and hydrogen excretion in the kidneys. It is widely used in veterinary medicine as a long-acting injectable suspension (marketed under brand names such as Percorten-V and Zycortal) for the treatment of primary hypoadrenocorticism (Addison's disease) in dogs, replacing the deficient endogenous mineralocorticoid aldosterone.
