Overview

**Deuterium-depleted water (DDW)** is water with a reduced deuterium (²H) concentration, typically below 150 ppm compared to ~150 ppm in natural water, produced as a byproduct of heavy water isolation. It exhibits altered physical properties like lower density, viscosity, and surface tension due to deuterium's influence on water cluster formation and stronger O-D bonds.[2][6] Preclinical studies suggest DDW inhibits cancer cell proliferation (e.g., colorectal cancer via oxidative stress modulation), enhances insulin sensitivity and GLUT4 translocation in diabetes models, and extends survival in cancer patients retrospectively; mechanisms may involve metabolic disruption in deuterium-sensitive processes like mitochondrial function and cell division, though clinical evidence remains limited.[1][3][7]
