Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DEVA-COVID19 is a preclinical vaccine candidate developed by Devacell for the prevention of COVID-19. It utilizes the company's proprietary ONCoat™ platform, which consists of a nanoparticle-based synthetic vector derived from an engineered adenovirus subtype 5 (Ad5). The ONCoat™ technology is designed to encapsulate the viral vector in a protective nanoparticle shell, which aims to reduce neutralization by pre-existing anti-adenovirus antibodies and improve systemic delivery. In the context of COVID-19, the vector is engineered to present SARS-CoV-2 antigens to the immune system to elicit a protective antiviral response. While the ONCoat™ platform is primarily positioned for oncolytic virus applications in oncology, DEVA-COVID19 represents an adaptation of this technology for infectious disease prophylaxis.
