Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DEX IR tablets is an investigational immediate-release oral tablet formulation of dexamfetamine sulfate (dextroamphetamine sulfate), a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant and small molecule drug. It is being evaluated in the Phase 2 DEXAD clinical trial (NCT06967857) as an adjunctive treatment to SSRIs/SNRIs in adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and comorbid moderate to severe major depressive disorder (MDD). Dexamfetamine acts primarily as an agonist of trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) and an inhibitor/releasing agent of monoamine transporters, including the dopamine transporter (DAT) and norepinephrine transporter (NET). This mechanism promotes the release and inhibits the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine in the synaptic cleft, particularly enhancing activity in the prefrontal cortex to improve sustained focused attention, working memory, and cognitive processes.
