Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents, dexamethasone and lithium carbonate. Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant properties, acting primarily through binding to the glucocorticoid receptor to modulate gene expression and suppress pro-inflammatory pathways. Lithium carbonate is a mood stabilizer used mainly in the management of bipolar disorder; its precise mechanism of action remains unclear but involves inhibition of enzymes such as inositol monophosphatase and glycogen synthase kinase 3, affecting neurotransmitter signaling and neuroprotective pathways. The combination has been studied preclinically for effects on serotonin 2A receptor supersensitivity induced by chronic dexamethasone administration, with evidence suggesting that lithium may mitigate some neuropsychiatric side effects associated with long-term corticosteroid use[1][6]. There are no widely recognized brand names or approved fixed-dose products containing both agents.
