Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flokort is an ophthalmic solution containing dexamethasone (as dexamethasone sodium phosphate) and ofloxacin. Developed by Laboratório EDOL, it is approved in Portugal for the treatment of inflammatory eye conditions and bacterial eye infections, particularly in pre- and post-operative ocular surgery settings where infection and inflammation coexist. Dexamethasone is a potent corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, redness, and swelling by binding to and activating the glucocorticoid receptor, thereby inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. Ofloxacin is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic that exerts bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair.
