Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This combination therapy consists of the synthetic glucocorticoid **dexamethasone** and the recombinant human **bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2)**. Dexamethasone is a potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agent that, at specific low concentrations, is known to induce the osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). BMP-2 is a member of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) superfamily and acts as a powerful osteoinductive growth factor that promotes bone formation by stimulating the differentiation of progenitor cells into osteoblasts. The combination is typically delivered locally via a scaffold (such as calcium phosphate cement or a hydrogel) to provide sustained release at the site of injury. Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital has investigated this combination for the treatment of complex bone defects and fractures, including tibial plateau and proximal humeral fractures, aiming to accelerate bone healing and improve clinical outcomes through the synergistic enhancement of osteogenesis.
