Developed and sponsored by the Federal Research Institute of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology (Dmitry Rogachev National Medical Research Center), the therapy consists of a backbone of systemic chemotherapy including the glucocorticoid dexamethasone, the anthracycline daunorubicin, and the vinca alkaloid vincristine. This is supplemented by triple intrathecal therapy comprising methotrexate, cytarabine, and prednisone to provide central nervous system prophylaxis and treatment. The regimen is designed to rapidly reduce leukemic cell burden and achieve complete remission during the initial phase of treatment.
